The Oyster & Otter named the inaugural winner of The Food Awards England and Wales Gastro Pub of the Year North Award.

The Oyster & Otter, which was the first gastro pub to open under the Seafood Pub Company brand in 2011, beat off competition from six other gastro pubs from across Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire to claim the title at the awards ceremony at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

The 26 categories at the Food Awards England and Wales were judged on public nominations. The gastro pub award was designed to recognise and reward pubs that successfully combine the provision of enjoyable food with a high standard of management.

“We have been really pleased to win a number of awards this year, but they are always that little bit more special when we know they are based on the recommendation of our customers,” said Joycelyn Neve, managing director of the Seafood Pub Company.

“We are delighted that we were shortlisted against some fantastic local competitors and that the opinion of our customers has led to us winning this award, it caps off a fantastic month for us with the Oyster & Otter also being recognised in the Cheshire and Lancashire Life Food Awards.”

The Food Awards England and Wales recognise and reward some of England and Wales top servers, specialists and suppliers and in turn celebrates the amazing breadth of the love for good food in this country.

Yasmin Mahmood of event organisers Creative Oceanic commented “It was a fantastic evening and was a great pleasure to be amongst the top restaurants, takeaways, pubs, bars, hotels and many more who were all representing their businesses on the evening. Congratulations to all the winners and the finalists.”

The Awards also helped raise over £1,300 for the official charity partner, Make A Wish Foundation UK granting magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
