Less than six months after we completed a full transformation of the site, the Barley Mow in Pendle is celebrating receiving two prestigious AA titles.
Following an unannounced recent overnight stay at the Barley Mow, which welcomes guests with a hunt lodge style interior, cosy corners and log fires, the AA inspector awarded us a four star accommodation rating and a Dining Award.
Sites must pass a stringent inspection process covering the standard of accommodation, knowledge of staff, bookings process, restaurant services and housekeeping quality in order to receive a four star award. The Dining Award is presented to sites which offer high quality menus with an emphasis on freshly prepared local ingredients.
“It’s fantastic that the passion and commitment of our team has been recognised after such a short period of time,” said Fred Cisela, Barley Mow General Manager. “Our six country style bedrooms have already proved popular with guests from corporate visitors to outdoor enthusiasts and these awards will only add to their appeal.
“We are ideally located for people looking to explore all that the Pendle countryside has to offer, from the historic Pendle Hill on our doorstep to huge national events such as the Tour of Britain cycle ride which will be passing by us later this year.”
The Barley Mow became the first of our sites to operate under the Pub Co brand – where the emphasis lies in being a proper pub.
Executive chef Antony Shirley, who recently won the Best Pub Group Chef Award at the Development Chef Awards, has developed a menu of pub classics and on trend eats. Dishes are influenced by cuisine from across America and Europe, from sandwiches and salads to curries, tacos and stews. And complementing the food menu is a wide range of cask ales, world beers and award winning wines.
“We are committed to serving in season, high quality dishes at the Barley Mow,” added Antony Shirley. “That means using ingredients such as Roaming Roosters’ sustainable meat for our mixed grill or fish selected by Chris Neve from the Fleetwood coast each morning for our fish and fries.
“We pride ourselves on using freshly prepared local ingredients, but it is rewarding to know that this has been recognised by the AA and their tough inspection processes.”
