We’re proudly celebrating the Assheton Arms being named in the top half of this year’s Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list, after being voted for by top foodies and hospitality industry experts.

Our flagship Grade II listed Downham site has made its debut at number 22 on the prestigious list, after winning the coveted Best Food Offer category at the annual Publican Awards for the past two years in a row.

The Morning Advertiser food and drink editor, Nicholas Robinson describes winning a place on the Top 50 Gastropubs list as the “jewel in the crown for foodie pubs across the UK. It’s the place to be seen.”

The Assheton’s food offering was praised, as the kitchen specialises in “same day” seafood, often served only hours after being caught, as well as top-quality, locally-shot game and the best produce the bountiful county of Lancashire has to offer.

Seafood Pub Company executive chef, Antony Shirley added: “It’s a fantastic honour to make our debut on the list alongside some of the country’s best and most well-known food pubs. It’s a really difficult list to break into because of the depth of quality and talent on display.

“The listing is testament to the hard work and passion of all of our staff, both chefs and front of house teams, and we are looking forward to building on this success across all of our sites, with some exciting plans in the pipeline.”

In addition to the Top 50 Gastropubs listing and winning a Publican Award for the Best Food offering in each of the past two years, the Assheton Arms was also named as the Country Dining Pub of the Year in 2015 and 2016, and awarded an AA Rosette and 5* status for its food and rooms.
